The Spirits of Nature

In ancient times people looked to Nature as something filled with all sorts of spirits; legends and myths talked about elfs, gnomes and others, which later inspired the imaginations of the Romantic writers. While modern scientific discoveries have put aside the myths of old cultures, with art one can give them new life, seeking again the magic of Nature's bounties.

The compositions I have used to create my paintings this year include Max Reger's opulent string sextet ("Mach die Blumen singen?"), the elegant piano music of Jean-Michel Damase ("White hibiscus") as well as works by Bertali and his employer – King Leopold the first, who was a rare combination of composer and king!
